Q-  Are you guys serious?  Do you really expect me to fall for this, and send you money?

A-  Yes we are serious, there is nothing to “fall” for.  As explained in the history section of the website, we really are curious how effective a Dare is to the average human.  The easiest, most widespread “true” test of this effect is to Dare you to send us a minimum amount of money.

Q-  What are you doing with the money you receive?

A-  While we were thinking about giving some percentage of the funds raised to charity, it occurs to us that then this is not a study of how effective a Dare is, but instead it is a test of generosity.  A true Dare involves personal risk and as such the money raised is going towards the continuation of this website and salary for the web owners.  Depending on demand and you, our customers/study group, that may change.

Q-  What is the Dare a Friend link about?  This isn’t some automated spam program?

A-  The Dare a Friend link is there to see how effective personal dares are.  You click on the link and it opens an e-mail window just like any contact link.  Instead of emailing us, you enter your friends email, adjust the default message to your content and then hit send.  It is not automated.  It is only there as a convenience in that it already has a message written should you choose to dare your friends to check out the site.  Will they accept the dare?

We have no way to know who you are sending the e-mail to, and in fact take no responsibility for what e-mail you send out.

Q-  How are ALL STARS determined?

A-  All Star Dare Takers are determined first by the total amount of dare money received for any given alias.  After that, ties are broken by the order in which the dare money is received.  If an alias you have sent is already taken, then the alias will be adjust via number.  We keep track of individual alias’s through the individual e-mail we receive from PayPal.  If you want your dare money to total under the same alias then please send your dare money through the same PayPal account.

Q-  Why aren’t you hitting us with pop-ups or asking for our personal data?  Why aren’t you recording the email addresses that we send to our friends and collecting a mail list?

A-  We feel that this study will be best served if we make acceptance of the Dare as painless as possible.  The first thing I do as a web browser is ignore websites that want a lot of information, or hit me with inordinate amounts of advertising.  We also feel that recording of e-mails and other personal data is not only a hassle but an invasion of your privacy.

We use PayPal so that we don’t need all your data.  All we receive is an e-mail address from you, the money you choose to send, and any optional information that you choose to enter in the optional notes field.  If you want to be in the running for the All Star list, include an alias for us to post, and if you want monthly results of this study than simply request it and that data will be sent to your PayPal given e-mail address.

We do not forward any e-mail addresses or sell that information.  This is also why we don’t record whoever you choose to challenge to this Dare.  That’s your business not ours.

Q-  Why are your forums simplistic, why use Simple Machine Forums instead of a more well known forum system?

A-  We are currently in a growth mode, there is not enough traffic currently to require or support full-time forum maintenance and moderation.  As traffic grows and funds allow, then the forum will be updated as necessary to meet demand.
